Melvin Ray was born April 29, 1971 in New Market, AL.  At a young age, Melvin's parent's divorced causing Melvin to move back and forth between Alabama and Ohio.  During Melvin's teenage years, he rebelled resulting in several run-ins with the law.

After realizing the wrong side of the tracks in life would get you no where and experiencing the birth of his daughter Raven and son Melik, Melvin settled down with his wife and hoped to raise his children.

Never dreaming Friday, March 26,1999 would change his life forever.  Andre Horton, a black male 27 years of age was murdered on this night.  Melvin Ray would later be arrested, tried and found guilty of the murder.
